PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
